This enjoyable, well-written comedy focuses on a young draftee with a special problem: Pvt. Floyd Hilston (Carleton Carpenter) has grown up with a lion, named Fagan, as his pet, and the strong bond between them is not easily broken. Not wanting to sell his pet to a cruel circus trainer, Hilston asks his sergeant (Keenan Wynn) to help him find Fagan a home. The sergeant thinks it's a joke until the lion gets out of his cage and the Army is forced to send out search parties to recover him. With the help of Army publicity, the soldier is able to find a good home for his pet, but the big cat escapes again and causes havoc during troop maneuvers.
